From October 6 – 10, 2014 the German House of Research and Innovation (DWIH) in Moscow, represented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Research Foundation (DFG), conducted the 4th German-Russian Week of The Young Researcher in St. Petersburg.

The conference was solemnly opened in the assembly hall of the oldest Russian University – St. Petersburg State University- by its rector, Prof. Nikolaj M. Kropachev. Prof. Kropachev underlined the relevance of the conference theme «Global History. German-Russian Perspectives on Regional Studies» and pointed out the importance of academic relations with German scientists, researchers and research organizations which have proved themselves as reliable and strong in St. Petersburg University´s history.
Prof. Dr. Margret Wintermantel, President of the DAAD, Prof. Dr. Peter Funke, Vice-president of DFG and Dr. Heike Peitsch, Consul General of the Federal Republic Germany in St. Petersburg welcomed the participants.
The aim of the «Week of the Young Researcher» is to provide international cooperation on a high scientific level, support dialogue und discussion on general research lines in Germany and Russia. The 4th «Week» enabled more than 50 postgraduates, PhDs and senior scientists from both of the countries to present their research projects on global history and regional studies.

The ambitious goal of the „week“ was to provide a broad geographical coverage of world regions -Europe, Asia and Latin America were discussed from the point of view of history, political science, economics and sociology.
The conference stimulated the exchange of experience and ideas, networking and contributed to a broader cooperation between young German and Russian scientists.
Representatives from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Research Foundation (DFG), Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation (АvH) and Freie Universität Berlin gave the participants an overview on funding opportunities in research and academic mobility. Russian partners like the Russian Foundation for the Humanities (RFH), St. Petersburg State University, Higher School of Economics (HSE) and the Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg informed about their structures and prospects for cooperation.
