On 3-5 June 2014, the 5th Interdisciplinary Conference of the Council of Young Scientists of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences was held in Arkhangelsk, attended by more than 80 scientists, experts, post-graduates and students under the age of 35 from Arkhangelsk, Yekaterinburg, Syktyvkar, Orenburg, Perm and Nizhny Tagil.
The proceedings of the conference involved learning about the areas of research being pursued by the Arkhangelsk Scientific Centre, the Institute of Physiology of Natural Adaptations and the Institute of Environmental Problems of the North, all belonging to the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. During the conference’s three days of proceedings, young scientists from various scientific centres and institutions belonging to the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences presented the results of their own research.
During the conference 4 lectures and 25 scientific papers were given on subjects in the areas of the humanities and natural sciences, relating to history, culture, archaeology, biology, medicine, ecology, chemistry, physics, mechanics, radiology and other fields. A master class was given during the conference on the bio-management of cardiac rhythm parameters, with an opportunity to provide feedback.
A round table discussion was also held, entitled “Youth policy and the popularisation of science”. The issues raised during the round table discussion included how to create conditions which ensure that scientists enjoy success, strategies for making science popular so as to attract young talent, and the promotion of scientific technologies and developments on the goods and services market. The round table discussion also involved a productive exchange of scientific and practical experience.
