The workshop was organized jointly by National Research University – Higher School of Economics (HSE) and Centre for Innovation and Technology of North Rhine-Westphalia (ZENIT, Germany) in the framework of the EU 7th RTD Framework Programme BILAT-RUS-Advanced project (“Enhancing the Bilateral S&T Partnership with the Russian Federation”, www.bilat-rus.eu).

Workshop participants included representatives of European and Russian Technology Platforms (RTPs and ETPs), Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Ministry for Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Delegation of the European Union to the Russian Federation, the Russian Foundation for Technological Development, and other key actors in the field of innovation in Russia and in the European Union.

The plenary session of the workshop was devoted to S&T and innovation policy in Russia and in the European Union, with special emphasis on the role of Technology Platforms and tools and measures for sustainable EU-Russia cooperation in the realm of innovation. The floor was then given to representatives of European and Russian Technology Platforms, whose presentations allowed the audience not only to familiarize itself with their activities but also to learn about their experience and expectations from international cooperation. Workshop participants were then invited to take part in a moderated discussion on opportunities and challenges of cooperation between Russian and European Technology Platforms.

As a result of this interactive session, a number of benefits and risks of cooperation between Russian and European Technology Platforms were identified and further steps to strengthen future collaboration were planned. Potential areas of cooperation identified include organisation of joint events, establishment of a web-based forum for mutual exchange between ETPs and RTPs, elaboration of collaboration topics, preparation of joint proposals under Horizon 2020 calls or RF Federal Targeted Programme “Research and Development in Priority Areas of Russia’s Scientific and Technological Complex 2014-2020”, et al.
