Conference “Regional Development in Central Europe and Russia. Territorial Disparities of Science and Innovation”

On 11th September 2014, the Hungarian Cultural, Scientific and Information Centre in Moscow in the course of the EU–Russia Year of Science held the conference “Regional Development in Central Europe and Russia. Territorial Disparities of Science and Innovation”. The conference was organised by the Institute of Regional Studies, the Centre for Economic and Regional Studies, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Pécs); and the Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IEIE SB RAS, Novosibirsk).

On 11th September 2014, the Hungarian Cultural, Scientific and Information Centre in Moscow in the course of the EU–Russia Year of Science held the conference “Regional Development in Central Europe and Russia. Territorial Disparities of Science and Innovation”. The conference was organised by the Institute of Regional Studies, the Centre for Economic and Regional Studies, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Pécs); and the Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IEIE SB RAS, Novosibirsk).

The conference was attended by nearly 50 leading Russian and European scientists in the spheres of innovation economics,, representatives of federal and regional authorities and innovation-driven business. Foreign participants spoke for Hungary, Germany and the Czech Republic; the Russian ones came from Moscow, Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg. The conference discussed issues concerning reforms of science in Russia and a few Eastern European countries (including those that have territorial concentration of scientific research). Particular attention of visitors was attracted by a successful model of innovation policy in Novosibirsk Oblast and collaboration between regional and municipal authorities, the Siberian Branch of the RAS and innovation-driven business in these processes.

Conference proceedings will be published by the Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering of the SB RAS. During the conference, special meetings between representatives of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Siberian Branch of the RAS took place to discuss the feasibility of a new joint project directed to provide scientific support for re-industrialization processes in the regions of Central Europe and Russia, based on the principles of “green economy” and innovative development.
