The German House of Research and Innovation (DWIH) Moscow invited German and Russian rectors to a conference in St. Petersburg on December 9th, 2013. A delegation of German Rectors’ Conference (HRK), headed by its President Prof. Dr. Horst Hippler, took part in this meeting. The DWIH Moscow was represented by its director, Dr. Gregor Berghorn, also Head of the Branch Office oft he German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Moscow, the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF) and the representative of the liaison office of Freie Universität Berlin in Russia.
The rectors’ meeting was organised in cooperation with the 'Association of the Leading Universities of Russia'. Invited by its chairman, the rector of the State University of St. Petersburg, Prof. Dr. Nikolay M. Kropachev. The meeting took place at his university.

The consultations focused on current developments of he Russian and German higher education sector and research system and their effects on the scientific cooperation between the two countries. Special attention was paid to the mobility of students and young researchers as well as to the development of joint degree programs. In this context the procedures of mutual recognition of academic qualifications were discussed, which are of great importance not only for the bilateral German-Russian cooperation, but also for collaboration across the European Higher Education Area (Bologna process).
The principal meeting on December 9, 2013 has already been the sixth high-level science talk organised by the DWIH Moscow since 2010. In 2013 it was attended by numerous rectors from various German Universities: Duisburg-Essen, Erlangen-Nuremberg, Technical University Berlin, University of Freiberg/ TU Bergakademie Freiberg, University of Business and Law of Berlin, University of Applied Sciences Brandenburg.
The 'Association of the Leading Universities of Russia' was represented by rectors from Saint Petersburg, Kazan and Rostov-on-Don. The Ministry of Education and Research, Moscow, was also represented in this conference.
